Diamond Tooling QC Inspection Workflow
Standard operating procedure for inspecting incoming diamond tooling shipments. Covers dimensional checks, segment count verification, bond hardness testing, and documentation.
Steps
- 1
Visual Inspection
Check packaging integrity. Inspect segments for cracks, chips, or uneven surfaces. Verify segment count matches order. Check for rust or contamination.
Pro tip: Use a 10x loupe for micro-crack detection on segment edges.
- 2
Dimensional Measurement
Measure segment height, width, and thickness with digital caliper. Compare against spec sheet. Tolerance: +/- 0.5mm on dimensions, +/- 0.3mm on height.
Tools: Digital caliper (0.01mm resolution)\nMeasure: 3 segments per set minimum\nRecord: All measurements in QC log
- 3
Weight Check
Weigh individual segments and compare to spec. Weight variance indicates diamond concentration differences. Acceptable variance: +/- 5%.
- 4
Fit Test
Mount one segment on the target machine plate. Verify pin pattern alignment, locking mechanism engagement, and seating depth.
Pro tip: A segment that requires force to mount will likely vibrate loose during operation.
- 5
Documentation
Record all measurements, photos of any defects, and pass/fail status. Generate QC report with batch number, date, and inspector initials.
- 6
Disposition
Pass: move to inventory. Fail: quarantine and initiate supplier communication with evidence photos and measurements.
