Project Pricing Calculator Workflow

Systematic process for calculating accurate project quotes for concrete grinding/polishing jobs. Covers material costs, labor, equipment, and margin.

Steps

  1. 1

    Measure Project Area

Calculate total square footage. Identify different zones if floor conditions vary. Note obstacles, edges, and hard-to-reach areas (add 10-15% for waste).

Measurement tips:\n- Laser measurer for accuracy\n- Add 10% for waste/overlap\n- Separate zones by condition
  2. 2

    Assess Floor Condition

Determine starting condition and desired finish. This sets the number of grinding passes needed and consumable usage rate.

Passes needed:\n- Coating removal + polish: 6-8 passes\n- Bare concrete polish: 4-6 passes\n- Grind and seal: 2-3 passes
  3. 3

    Calculate Consumable Cost

Estimate segment/pad usage based on area and concrete hardness. Harder concrete = more consumable cost per sqft.

Rough estimates per sqft:\n- Soft concrete: $0.15-0.25/sqft consumables\n- Medium: $0.25-0.40/sqft\n- Hard: $0.40-0.60/sqft\n- Add densifier: $0.05-0.10/sqft
  4. 4

    Calculate Labor

Estimate hours based on area and complexity. Include setup, grinding, cleanup, and travel time.

    Production rates:\n- Rough grind: 200-400 sqft/hour\n- Polish: 300-500 sqft/hour\n- Coating removal: 100-200 sqft/hour\n- Labor rate: $35-75/hour
  5. 5

    Add Equipment and Overhead

Include equipment wear/rental, fuel, insurance, and overhead allocation.

  6. 6

    Apply Margin

Add profit margin based on market and job complexity. Standard: 30-50% markup on total costs.

Final price = (Materials + Labor + Equipment + Overhead) x 1.3 to 1.5\nMinimum job charge: $1500-2500 regardless of size
