Diamond Segment Proper Storage Workflow
Correct storage procedures for diamond grinding segments to prevent corrosion, damage, and performance degradation. Covers short-term and long-term storage.
Steps
- 1
Clean Before Storage
Remove all concrete dust and slurry from segments after use. Dry thoroughly. Residual moisture causes corrosion of the metal bond matrix.
Pro tip: Never store wet segments. Even overnight moisture can start corrosion that weakens the bond.
- 2
Anti-Corrosion Treatment
Apply light coat of WD-40 or machine oil to metal surfaces. This prevents oxidation during storage. Wipe off before next use.
- 3
Organize by Type
Separate segments by: grit, bond hardness, and machine compatibility. Label clearly. Never mix different types in same container.
Labeling system:\n- Grit: 30/60/120/200\n- Bond: S(soft)/M(medium)/H(hard)\n- Machine: HQ(Husqvarna)/LV(Lavina)/HTC\n- Example: 30-M-HQ = 30 grit, medium bond, Husqvarna
- 4
Storage Environment
Store in dry location away from direct sunlight. Temperature stable (avoid freeze-thaw cycles). Off the ground on shelving.
Ideal conditions:\n- Humidity: <60%\n- Temperature: 10-30C (50-86F)\n- No direct sunlight\n- No chemical exposure\n- Ventilated area
- 5
Inventory Tracking
Record: quantity, purchase date, usage history, and remaining life estimate. First-in-first-out rotation to prevent aging.
