Pre-Grinding Floor Cleaning Workflow

Proper floor cleaning procedure before starting diamond grinding. Removes contaminants that damage segments and affect adhesion.

Steps

  1. 1

    Remove Loose Debris

Sweep or use industrial vacuum to remove all loose dirt, gravel, screws, and debris. Pay attention to corners and along walls.

Pro tip: A single screw or bolt can destroy a diamond segment on first contact. Walk the floor carefully.

  2. 2

    Identify Contaminants

Look for: oil stains, paint drips, adhesive residue, curing compounds, and sealers. Each requires different treatment before grinding.

Contaminant treatment:\n- Oil/grease: Degrease with alkaline cleaner\n- Paint: Scrape loose, grind remainder\n- Adhesive: Scrape bulk, PCD for remainder\n- Curing compound: Usually grinds off easily\n- Sealer: Test if it clogs segments
  3. 3

    Degrease Oil Stains

Apply alkaline degreaser to oil-stained areas. Scrub with stiff brush. Rinse and extract. Repeat if stain persists. Oil prevents proper segment contact.

  4. 4

    Remove Protruding Objects

Grind down or remove: nail heads, staples, tack strips, floor leveler ridges, and any metal objects. These destroy diamond segments instantly.

  5. 5

    Final Vacuum

Thorough vacuum of entire floor. Check that surface is dry. Verify no remaining hazards that could damage equipment or segments.

  6. 6

    Document Starting Condition

Take photos of floor condition before grinding starts. Note any pre-existing damage, cracks, or areas of concern. This protects you from blame for existing issues.
