Concrete Densifier Application Workflow
Proper procedure for applying lithium silicate densifier during concrete polishing. Covers timing, coverage rates, application methods, and common mistakes.
Steps
- 1
Surface Preparation
Densifier should be applied after 80-100 grit honing pass. Surface must be clean, dry, and free of grinding slurry. Vacuum thoroughly.
Apply densifier AFTER: 80-100 grit (most common)\nSome systems: after 200 grit\nNEVER: before grinding or on sealed surface
- 2
Coverage Calculation
Calculate material needed based on concrete porosity. Soft/porous concrete absorbs more. Start with manufacturer recommended rate and adjust.
Typical coverage rates:\n- Soft/porous concrete: 150-250 sqft/gallon\n- Medium concrete: 250-350 sqft/gallon\n- Hard/dense concrete: 350-500 sqft/gallon
- 3
Application
Apply with microfiber mop, pump sprayer, or auto-scrubber. Work in sections. Keep surface wet for 15-20 minutes. Do not let it dry on the surface (causes white residue).
Pro tip: If it dries white, you applied too much or let it sit too long. Scrub with water immediately.
- 4
Dwell Time
Allow densifier to penetrate for 15-30 minutes. Keep wet by re-applying to dry spots. The concrete should drink it in — if it puddles, the surface is saturated.
- 5
Residue Removal
Remove ALL excess with auto-scrubber or wet vacuum. Make 2-3 passes. Any residue left will interfere with subsequent polishing steps.
Signs of proper removal:\n- No white haze when dry\n- No sticky feeling\n- Surface feels slightly harder than before
- 6
Cure and Continue
Wait minimum 24 hours before resuming polishing. Some systems allow 4 hours. Check manufacturer specs. Resume with next grit in sequence.
